Syllabic complexity

Each language is also assigned to one of three categories for its syllabic complexity ("Syllcat") corresponding to those in the WALS database. Languages that allow nothing more elaborate than a CV syllable as classed as having Simple syllable structure; those which allow either a common type of two-consonant onset, such as CG or CL, or allow a single consonant in coda position are classed as Moderately Complex. Languages that have less common onset clusters, such as two obstruents or three or more consonants, or which have clusters in the coda are classed as having Complex syllable structure.
